Kid-Friendly Activities In and Around CT

It’s Saturday morning, my neighbors are raking leaves in their front yard while their kids play, children are riding their bikes around the neighborhood, moms are jogging with their strollers in tow, grandparents are walking their grandchildren to the park down the street while sipping their morning cup of coffee, the high schoolers are headed to the football field to catch the big Saturday afternoon rivalry game. This is the view from my house on a beautiful sunny Saturday afternoon (que Motown song). On days like today, my neighborhood feels like it’s straight out of a movie.

When we first settled into the suburbs, I was unsure what to expect. I worried we would feel like outsiders and not fit in with the locals or our new community. I worried I would become bored easily and quickly run out of things to fill my time and more importantly, activities to keep my my son, Kenny, entertained. I soon discovered Connecticut is filled with activities and sights for families and children to enjoy. I have come across so many places to visit and explore, I’m convinced there’s something new and exciting to do every day of the year.

A great resource I was introduced to when I first moved to the suburbs of Connecticut is Mommy Poppins. This website is filled with helpful guides and local events all the different suburbs of Connecticut and has the option to filter by age group. A few of my top picks for kid-friendly activities in CT are:

Stepping Stones Museum for Children (less than a 20-minute drive from Darien New Canaan and Westport)

Beardsley Zoo (a 30-minute drive from Darien New Canaan and Westport)

Maritime Aquarium (less than a 20-minute drive from Darien New Canaan and Westport)

Other fun options to keep busy with your kiddos in Connecticut are:

Joining a local mom group, you can find them via Instagram, google search and/or Facebook.

My Gym is a great place to let your little one(s) run around and burn off their endless amounts of energy while giving you the opportunity to meet other parents. You can find one locally by searching their site.

Connecticut has beautiful public parks with pools and splash pads, hiking trails and farms to visit. Perfect for all ages!

I never imagined myself being a ‘suburban mom,’ but to be honest, I’ve grown to love it and I truly can’t imagine life any other way.
